Music is totally subjective and listener enjoyed. With that being said, I am going to name the songs that are strictly my Top 10 LRB songs. It should be noted that the band is still touring with the 41 year LRB Veteran Wayne Nelson still singing lead and playing bass. 2019 saw the band tour across the nation and do a show in New Zealand and Canada. Read on for 10 Best Little River Band Songs.
In addition, this iteration of the band honors the legacy of the classic songs, but writes, records and is still releasing some great new music. A few of the newer cuts are included in this list and I believe they are as stellar as some of the ones that came before them. This list is not in any particular order and again, these are these music critics’ favorites.
Side Note
Take a look and a listen. You never know, you may just find a few new favorites of you own. Enjoy.
TOP 10
It will be a long time before anybody says Goodbye to LRB
10.”The Long Goodbye”
The storyline, the melody and the harmonies on this song are top notch. Nelson’s vocals really capture the longing in these lyrics. An up-beat makes you think that everything is going to be okay when the end is near. The song leaves you feeling hopeful like “when one door closes, another opens,” type of thing. Stephen Housden on lead guitar whips things up in a great way.
Cruising Song
An absolute country rock feel, “You Dream – I’ll Drive,” will make you want to jump in your car and cruise. Roll down those windows and sing right along. I know this to be fact because I have experienced it. This song is a fan favorite and is on the bands new ‘FAN FAVORITE’ album. A real summertime song, take it with you when you travel.
How Long Was It?
The live shows usually kick off with this song and it is electrifying. Vocals harmonies, musicianship all spot on and new again. Recently the band released a new CD called “Black Tie.” Black Ties features LRB with a select symphonic accompaniment. Check out this version by clicking the blue link. It is beautifully done and illustrates what the audience experiences at live shows.
A Newer Song – Fan Favorite
A beautiful song that tells the story of a man and women really wanting to make it but won’t. The old story, their love burned so hot they both got burnt. Nice groove, signature LRB harmonies and a driving tempo makes this another Fan Favorite.

The song describes and lends tribute to families that have suffered the ultimate sacrifice. Released in 2013 on “Cuts Like A Diamond,” this song brings tears, joy and hope to all that hear it. The lyrics, music and storyline have all the makings of a classic hit.
TOP 5
A classic LRB song, Help is still a thrill maker. The “Black Tie,” version really gives this song new life. This music critic could listen to this version all day long and while the original version was good, this version adds new energy and hope.
Take it Easy on Who?
Always a favorite of mine, the strings on this version really lend to the heartache the storyteller is feeling. Nelson’s vocals are pristine and sound as good now as he did back in the day. The horns and strings in chorus are angelic. Click the link to hear this version. It won’t disappoint.
Female Favorite
3.”Lady”
This song is one that most of the world considers being a signature love song for LRB. Every version of this song rocks but I am sharing the “Black Tie” version as it has a little extra zest to it. I am a sucker for the big band sound. Nelson sounds youthful and spunky. He puts his spin on this one and it is endearing. It is hard not to listen to this one over and over again.
Out on the Prowl
2.”The Night Owls”
Nelson’s signature LRB song, “The Night Owls,” sparks back some crazy nights in everyone’s younger days. The “Black Tie” version really ignites those memories. Try listening to this one and tell me you won’t have flashbacks of hot summer nights? Nelson could sing this one in his sleep, he probably does. Enjoy this version and I dare you to sit still.
Let’s go Sailing
1.”Cool Change”
A personal LRB favorite, Cool Change stirs emotions that people didn’t even know they had. Penned by Glenn Shorrock, this was his professional best as a songwriter. One must consider that this song was born from his soul. After 41 years, Nelson has made this one his own vocally. Check out the best version of Cool Change by clicking the link above.
In conclusion
10 Best Little River Band Songs
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Reminiscing. Technically Reminiscing was Little River Band’s highest charting song with The Night Owls right behind it. It is not in my list of Top 10 because it simply is not a favorite of mine. I always thought of it as an old folk song because I was 17 when this song was a hit on the radio. The mention of Glenn Millers Band makes me think of my two old spinster Aunts and ruins the song for me. It is however a favorite of many. I am wishing them many more years enjoying it. The “Black Tie,” version gives it a zinger of new life. Enjoy.
