ARE YOU DISAPPOINTED WITH MAY  SWEEPS THUS FAR?

Who else has been waiting for May sweeps since the holidays? We here at the Daily Banner lunch crew sure have and boy have we been disappointed. The month is half over and so far it has been a big bust. Let’s talk about the 4 daytime soaps remaining on the air and let’s start with YOUNG AND RESTLESS. May sweeps for all soaps this year are lackluster

YOUNG AND RESTLESS has brought Diane back from the dead. That has shaken up Genoa City a bit. In order to hire Susan Walters back they had to fire Jordi Vilasuso. In addition, they hired Kelsey Wang to play Jacks granddaughter ALI.  We can’t forget they hired a replacement for Summer and have brought Tessa’s sister back from hiding in Canada. All of that cost money out of the budget. So far the resumption of Diane has been lackluster. We aren’t getting much from Jack’s granddaughter so people are surmising she is actually working with Diane and a fake. Jack has not even asked for a DNA test. Why? Because she is Asian like his son?

We have forgotten about Dominic and his disease. The merger of Chancelor and Hamilton Winters has been put on the back burner.  Rey was buried without any fanfare and when was the last time we saw MOSES? Young and Restless better do something quick to spice up this soap or it may just go down the drain.

BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL

May sweeps for all soaps this year are lackluster

Bold and Beautiful took another way through May sweeps by not bringing in someone new but with murder.  So Steffy, a major character and someone poised to be the Matriarch of the Forrester Empire someday loses her husband at the hands of his birth-mother, the evil Sheila. Not only did Finn die by his mother’s bullet, he did so to save his wife’s life. Stephanie had amnesia but now remembers her mother in law killed her hsuband.  Instead of calling the police, they invite her to the house to confront her. There Sheila admits her guilt and blames murdering her son on Stephanie. Crazy but true.

BnB has been dangling another Quinn Carter go around while Paris (not a very well liked character) is running after him full force.  The almighty patriarch is cheating on his wife with his ex-wife Donna. Can there be anything more loss of appetite worthy than seeing this pairing in the afternoon. No offense to the actor that plays Eric (John McCook) but at age 77, this is just not appealing to watch. He always looks like he is going to lose his dentures in his kissing scenes.  The actress that plays Donna (Jennifer Gareis) however has a drop dead body. At 51, there are 30 year old men panting after this actress.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES

What can we say about Days? When the going gets touch, Days goes straight to hell as in let’s bring back the Devil. This time however they didn’t stop there with that recycled story line. They let the devil get inside several of matriarch Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) beloved grandchildren. On top of that, someone decided that they would recycle the ROSEMARY’S BABY plot with Ciara and Ben’s son BO. Other than Lonnie recently killing her birth father to protect her birth mother and adoptive father, the only other storyline happening at Days is Sarah getting her memory back. Now we will have to endure Sarah forgetting that her baby died and Xander having to relive his part in this all over again.

GENERAL HOSPITAL

This show should be renamed Carly’s World. Somehow this wayward character that first appeared on this show on April 5, 1996 has Port Charles revolving around her. This vengeful adoptee came to Port Charles to torture her birth mother Bobbi and boy did she accomplish that goal. She slept with her mother’s husband Tony and made so many people miserable. Much like Nell did or as Esme is doing now.   In May so far we the following front burner story-lines occurring:

• Carly getting secret DNA on Willow to prove or disprove Willow is Nina’s daughter;
• Stalled Trina story line while we wait from Trina’s court date;
• Ava and Nikolas continue to fight over Esme and Spencer;
• Elizabeth thinks Franco’s spirit is living in her house and it looks like she would be content to live there with it forever;
• Olivia and Drew open their big mouths that will spark some bad repercussions soon;
• Carly wants Nina gone and for her to have nothing to do with Wiley;
• Infighting of the Quartermaines should begin shortly as Ned thinks he is being pushed out;
• Michael is turning downright evil. Maybe the devil has showed up in Port Charles?

In Conclusion

After writing out the current story line for the 4 soaps, it is obvious that General Hospital has the most going on with different story-lines for best chance at BEST MAY SWEEPS. However, most of which integrate into each other and all come back to some kind of involvement with the character of Carly.
