When I first put this song from Sun King Rising on I wasn’t sure what to expect. It started off with a little soul type rhythm. You know, like you might hear in a smoke filled bar or AM radio back in the day. The whole upbeat song puts you in a happy mood. It’s a groove thing

Let’s suffice to say that the song searches and finds a groove. It then turns in to a nice upbeat love song that is both masterfully produced and balanced. Additionally, it has a lot of movement going on in the background. Everything is there for the average listener to enjoy and there are a lot of musical kernels under the surface to entice a nitpicker like myself.

It’s all about the Bass

Personally I love the way the bass does its’ occasional fast little runs with what appears to be a sax growl in the background. There are a lot of little tasty tidbits hiding under the surface that makes the song move along. You might even amazingly find your feet keeping time and just enjoying the song that Sun King Rising calls “No. 6 Magnolia Avenue”.

Once is not enough

You will find that you are going to hear something different going on each time you listen to it. If you are listening carefully on each listen some else show up. Like the sax and the bass doing the runs that it does. Normally a bass is just a part of the rhythm section but this one is very melodic in places making the whole “No. 6 Magnolia Avenue” come across in a more sophisticated way.

Good Old Friend

The last time I listened to this song, it struck me that it was getting to be like an old friend. It was as if someone at a radio station chose to put on a great song that you had not heard in a while. That is good news for Sung King Rising. It means the song sticks with you and has potential for being a hit.
