THE HEAVENLY BAND

There isn’t anybody out here living today that won’t agree that 2016 is kicking off very poorly. This article is focusing on the losses of 2016 but we would be remiss if we did not mention Natalie Cole and Lemmy Kilmester of Motorhead who both passed at the end of December of 2015. All these deaths have taken place in the last 3 weeks and it really seems like more than anybody can stand.

The 1st Member of the Heavenly Band

Gig Michaels was the first to head up to heaven on January 3, 2016, less than 4 hours before his birthday. GIG MICHAELS (Swamp da Wamp – Vocals/Guitar) Michaels is best known as the leader of the southern country rock blues band Swamp da Wamp. He was the leader of this rocking band from the Carolinas. He was the main songwriter and singer for the band and lent his personal look at life and gritty larger than life vocals to them.

The 2nd Member of the Heavenly Band

DAVID BOWIE (David Bowie – Vocals/Guitar)
Bowie was always as far out in the cosmos as his alter ego Ziggy Stardust. Early in his career he discovered that glam rock was his niche. He almost single handedly started the androgynous look that is so popular by many musicians today. His final album BLACKSTAR also became his first to go to number one. Bowie left this planet on January 10, 2016.

The 3rd Member of the Heavenly Band

Gary Loizzo (American Breed/Styx – Vocals/Engineer)
In the 1960s Loizzo became famous as the lead singer of the band the American Breed. That band had a major hit with the Song “Bend Me Shape Me”. As his stage career faded Loizzo started a new career as a producer and was responsible for award winning albums for REO Speedwagon, Bad Company and Styx. He was also the main sound man for Styx until shortly before his death on January 17, 2016.

The 4th Member of the Heavenly Band

Dale Griffin (Mott the Hoople – Drummer)
Griffin got his start placing drums for the English rock Band Mott the Hoople in the 1970s. David Bowie wrote their first major hit “All the Young Dudes”. After the band broke up Griffin continued to freelance drum and did production on some musical projects.
It is so sad that we are losing all of these icons in such a short amount of time. His date of death is January 17, 2016.

The 5th Member of the Heavenly Band

Glenn Frey (Eagles – Vocals/Guitar)
Any fan of great music knows that Frey’s voice was on the airways. He was a founding member of the Eagles and had a very successful solo career. Frey co-wrote many of the biggest hits by the Eagles and will be long remembered for his voice, creativity, and musical ability. Eyes are still crying over him leaving on January 18, 2016.
