People, like it or not the Nashville music community is about 10 percent music and 90 percent politics. I may be off a percentage point or two but its close. A lot of people with limited talent get accolades up the butt and many with mega talent fade into obscurity. Chris Stapleton is certainly talented and deserves to be recognized as such but did he (or anyone) deserve to win that many awards? Certainly people that love him will say yes and those that do not will say no.
The truth may well lie in the 90 percent politics of the Nashville music industry. You see the mega dollars coming into Nashville these days go to the auto-tuned cookie cutter Bro style country acts. The good old boy images of artist like Stapleton don’t really figure in to that equation. Even though everyone who is anyone in the industry is claiming to have seen the potential in his music and have supported him in his rise to stardom, in my humble opinion, they are setting him up for a hard fall.

What better way for them to say “I told you so” than to have someone come from virtual obscurity and buck the system, win a ton of awards just to have them fall back down to earth as fast as they rose. That would give the industry the power to say that old style country is dead and continue on the path that has all but destroyed real country music.

I hope that Stapleton proves me wrong and gets more than a 3 year high profile career out of his current success. Nothing would suit me better than to end up eating some crow and watching him top the charts and the awards show for decades to come. Real country music needs a savior that can kick the skinny jeaned butts of the custom made superstars of today. You know the ones that couldn’t start a tractor to save their own lives. Time will tell if Stapleton is the deliverer or the one being delivered. I hope that it is the former and not the latter because Country Music is on the last couple nails for the coffin if someone doesn’t change the minds of the industry soon.

Has nothing to do with his talent, though he is talented. It has to do with who is behind him, and I’m not talking the label. Its about the money. These days they call it “When the promotion money kicks in.” That money pays to get it done. With that said, once there is someone in the back ground to put up the cash, the artist better have the goods when he or she does arrive on the big stage, and even then its near impossible to sell a full CD. Its single downloads. The first record will sell more (whole cds) because its new. After that, its streams and single downloads. Chet Atkins once said that no record label can stay in business selling singles. He was right. Record labels are getting harder to find these days. Thank God Stapleton has talent, I like it, and I’m fairly jaded. Enjoy it, the cash could stop anythime and selling downloads won’t keep an act going.
George and Allen told it like it is, the industry has committed murder on Music Row. Chris may not last, however he is a lot closer to the real thing than we have seen in years. It is a shame when half the CD’S on your CD player are performed by deceased artist.

SUPER ELITE ….and someone like that will never fall to the POLITICAL TRASHVILLE scene… He just has too much talent and tools to use in anyway it goes. WATCH. And remember POPULAR MUSIC DON’T MEAN GOOD MUSIC ..people are starting to catch on..Ever heard of the rocknroll hall of fame ?? He is briliant and deserves all the awards he got this year.
He just nailed it at the country to country gigs here in England and Scotland a few weeks ago.
Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell are the most interesting country artists at the moment.
And just because we just descovered Stapleton now doesnt mean that he has not been playing music for years years. To label him as an overnight success it a bit rude.
Chris Stapleton paid his dues for years on the road and in nashville with some of the top musicians including grammy winning Steel Drivers. Anyone who says Chris is an overnight success knows nothing about Nashville Music. He is what we call in Nashville a “40-year overnight success”. This man worked for it. Don”t put that down. It is what makes good country music.

I was shocked when Chris Stapleton won award as vocalist….But he came out of the woodwork….The artist like Steve Warner Brad Pasley Vince Gill Keith Urban..their styles draws more listeners….Chris keep writing those songs….
I agree, what they call Country today is not even close to real Country. I have satellite radio and only listen to Wileye road house, Prime Country & some oldies rock and roll i’m talking 5os early 60’s & the Elvis channel I don’t listen to much of anything else. Ekcent my own records.
