HEATHENSUN
We sat down to have a conversation with the Nu-Metal band Heathensun. Based out of North Carolina, the guys came together during the pandemic to create new music. We were curious about how that happened when everyone was isolating. In addition, we reviewed the album. Read on for the Exclusive interview with Nu-Metal Rock band Heathensun.
Q: How did you each other during the pandemic to create this band?
A: Drunkndonuts (mark) and Johnny (John), had known each other for close to twenty years. Whether the stars aligned, the fates deemed it necessary, or just plain dumb luck. The two of us came together just to start writing again. After everything started taking off is when the rest of the band came in, but yet, it feels like we’ve know each other a lifetime.
Q: Why does every song have a one word title including the album name?
Simplicity in its finest I think lol. Not every story needs a long drawn out explanation. Sometimes one word is all that’s needed. Just like a picture is worth a thousand words. You hear the name and you can already get a feeling of what’s about to come next.
BLUE EYES
Q: Are you all blue eyed as indicated in the cartoon artwork rendering?
That we are. Baby blues, Johnny’s moods, and sick ass grooves…yeah that’s a good description right? Lol
Q: Why the masks on 3 of the players?
Johnny tried wearing a mask, but the rest of the band said he looked weird enough as is lol. Every member has their own reasons for the masks. Ak-47 (arroll) wears the colors of his homeland as a proud Scotsman. DnD wears his as a sign of confidence, a type of armor if you will.
Q: Tell me about the Kilt?
It’s an article of clothing…jk jk. The kilt is something that Johnny has always had. At last count, I think he’s up to fifteen different tartans. He swears that they are the most comfortable, stylish, and metal type clothing one could wear. Also he like the cool breeze on a hot day….we told him not elaborate.
GANG Album Review
Exclusive interview with Nu-Metal Rock band Heathensun
MAKE
As I listen to the song I have the urge to drop my body on a sharp object. That was not meant as an insult. It’s the kind of rhythm that metal is made for. The drummer is sweating his butt off speed pumping that bass and you just feel like you’re gonna lose it.
GANG
What a totally interesting take of the standard drop note chords that metal is known for. Splash in a little squirt of those ever popular obscenities and you got it going on. LOVE THE ENDING DUDES.
JEALOUSY
Nothing like a little metal rock rap. I mean who even remembers Justin Bieber? Well the song really does make you understand the way JEALOUSY feels in musical measures.
SWIM
This is an interesting song. Listen to it and you can see the effects used tastefully. I normally think that one that leaves the vocals sound this thin over the drums leaves the song weak but in this case it really seems to add another interesting layer of audio things going on for your ears..
BEACH
If you listen, no I mean really listen to this song there is a shit ton going on here. A lot of musical ideas and a lot of interesting word choices as they flow out. Musically love the bass and chord progressions
HEAT
As I listen to this song a funny thought came to me. If ya’ll can get back to me this is a serious question. On an average show, how many pounds does the drummer and lead vocalist lose in a show. I mean if you go back the old school metal days some of them are lame compared to these dudes.
HATE
When this one started it caught me right away and I stayed there until the end. There is enough interesting changes that you don’t hear when you listen to this particular genre of music.
IN CONCLUSION
All in all the album is well mixed and mastered and will get you up to the task of rocking or whatever else you have to do. If you dig Pantera with a little Dimebag Darrell mixed in for flavoring, this album is for you. Looking forward to the next Exclusive interview with Nu-Metal Rock band Heathensun.
