So many faces, so little time

One thing Maurice Benard has always been able to go is light up the screen with his dimpled smile. That has never changed. However, through the years his smiles were less and less as Sonny.  The character  of Sonny had gotten ever so grimaced through the years.  It was as if Sonny forgot how to smile. When Mike came on the scene, he was a man that liked to smile. Read on for more about the many faces of Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital.

Nixon Falls

In Nixon Falls the viewers saw Sonny slowly become a man without the scars of the past. With that came a certain freedom from pain and injury. The kind of pain and injury that leave scars on children for a lifetime if not literally or emotionally than physically. Mike was a free spirit who lived with an uninjured heart full of love.  Maurice played that off wonderfully and we got to see those dimples again pretty much daily.

Back in Port Charles

From the moment that Smike remembered he was Sonny the smile went away.  It took weeks and Nina for us to see that smile again. Sonny also smiles around Phyllis but that could be because she knew Mike. The only person Sonny wasn’t smiling around was Carly.

Mike and Sonny are blending

The personalities of Mike and Sonny are really starting to blend together. We saw it today in the episode with Sonny smiling with an touch of evil at the guy in the trunk.  Nina said this week that Sonny is Mike and Mike is Sonny. He doesn’t have to be one of the other, he can have the characteristics of both men.

Quite the looker in the trunk

Someone has to ask, who was the looker in the trunk?  Are we supposed to believe that this guy is going to become fish bait?  Instead of killing him, Frank should have hired him and made him Britt’s boyfriend. Hey Frank, let’s keep him locked up in a room somewhere for a while and find out who he was working for and make him start working for Sonny. Don’t waste all that eye candy on the fishes. You married Brando off to Sasha. There is a real need for some good looking men on General Hospital these days.

As time goes by we are going to see more and more integration of the Smike personality. Maurice has said often that playing Sonny as the morose character was getting old.  This viewer is happy to see more layers of personality for the character of Sonny.
