WHAT THESE THINGS MEAN
Unfortunately, I have spent too much time sitting at my husband’s hospital bedside while he fought for his life during the last five (5) years. Because of that I have some insight as to what some of the things in this photo reveal. Some could be cause for concern for his fans. Others are just standard procedures after his kind of surgery. I marked this photo with numbers indicating what I am referring to. Read on for more about monitoring and wishes revealed in the hospital photo of Young and Restless Eric Braeden.
SAFETY BELT
Let’s start with the item marked number 1. That is a safety belt that physical therapists use to hold onto you when you have to start walking. They literally hold the belt to make sure you don’t fall if you start going down. This is standard procedure and nothing unusual about the use of this safety belts, especially after knee replacement surgery.
HEART MONITOR
What looks like a pocketbook hanging around Eric’s neck and marked as number 2 is a heart monitor holder. Not every patient in a hospital gets a heart monitor. In fact, normally only patients who have an irregular heartbeat or showed signs of heart issues before, during or after surgery would get their hearts monitors. Should this alarm us, probably not. Hopefully, they are just being super cautious with him.
CATHETER BAG
The weird looking round plastic container hanging from the walker and marked number 3 is a Catheter Bag. For whatever reason, they have him catheterized. They might not have wanted him up and walking but I can see a urinal hanging at the end of his hospital bed so his being catheterized is a mystery. This normally only occurs when they are doing something in your UTI, Bladder area. Should we be concerned? Hopefully not. Again, they may have catheterized him so he didn’t wet himself while he was still unconscious and they just haven’t had time to remove it. Or they are monitoring his urine output.
PURPLE SOCKS
Monitoring and wishes revealed in the hospital photo of Young and Restless Eric Braeden
The item I have marked as number 4 and the one I find most revealing and most notable are the purple socks. In hospitals, the socks they give you to wear are color coded. Each color reveals something different. For instance, Patients wearing yellow socks have been identified as being most at risk of falling. My husband was always assigned yellow socks. Red socks indicate allergies; orange means the patient is a potential flight risk, and purple signals “do not resuscitate.” Here Eric is clearly wearing Purple socks. The color purple reveals Eric’s wishes to not be resuscitated if he flat lines. That I find very perplexing as he seems to be in relatively good health over all. VACUUM
Last but not least, the item marked number 5 looks like a vacuum and that is in fact what it might be. In some surgeries they use this type of device to drain wounds. I am not 100% sure that is what it is but it is a good guess. If you are worried about the walker, don’t be. That is standard after his kind of surgery and will help get him walking well again in no time.
Let’s take this minute to wish Eric Braeden a quick recovery and here’s hoping it is a full success so we can see Victor Newman walking in and out of rooms again on The Young and the Restless. It is amazing what Monitoring and wishes revealed in the hospital photo of Young and Restless Eric Braeden.
