Rory Feek believes in magic.  How could he not when he looks into his baby Indy’s eyes.  I read those words on his latest blog post and I thought to myself.  What an amazing man.    I write for several online publications but The Daily Banner is my absolute favorite because simply put, I am the editor and I can write an editorial piece if I wish whenever I want.  This is one of those times.

I have been watching the bitter sweet journey of Joey + Rory for not just months but years.  In fact, I watched them compete on the reality show, “Can you Duet.”  They were always and remain a transparently brilliant and natural love story that will live on far beyond both Joey + Rory’s time on this earth.

Their love will live on through their music and through Indiana, the wonderful and very special (and not because of her down syndrome) that just makes her a more unique little girl Indiana.

When I look at that child and see photos of her entertaining her mother, I see a soul that has been here before.  Instinctively, that little baby girl knows what her Mama needs even before her Mama knows it.  That is magic.

Rory Feek believes in magic.  Rory talks about how and why he chose to use the + (plus) sign instead of the (&) or the word (and) between their names.  I would be lying if I said I hadn’t wondered about that but always felt under the circumstances, it seemed small to ask about it at a time like this but now that he has explained it, it all seems like it is part of the bigger picture, the story being written and developing before our eyes of their lives first as a couple and now as a family.

We all have our own journeys; many will be taken without the eyes and ears upon which the stories of Joey + Rory are being seen.  I feel honored to be one of the people that get a bird’s eye peek inside the lives of this wonderful family who teach without trying.

Rory Feek believes in magic. They say everything happens for a reason and while some of these reasons seem unbearably unfair and sad, life lessons are being learned daily by knowing about and accompanying Joey + Rory on this journey, albeit a virtual journey for most, it is EPIC in its  intensity and love.  Rory, you go on and believe in magic, you have every right to as it has been a big part of your life and a big part of who you are.
