TAKE IT TO YOUR GRAVE

I relax as the sounds of nice country music wafted across my studio speakers. I wasn’t really sure what to expect given the title but I sat quietly listening and was blown away. The production was top notch, the lyrics were exciting and the story seemed like a good fit for the subject. In short this is a killer song. A great melody with a moving chord structure combined with the right instruments always makes a good experience.

DOBRO & HAMMOND B3

Combing a dobro with what appears to be a Hammond B3 organ on this song works really well. So without making you wait any longer, here is the link for your listening pleasure. Before you ask, no it’s not traditional old country and it’s not modern “Bro” country. Dare I coin a phrase here and say it is just real country, in every aspect.

Give a Listen to Take It To Your Grave” and see if you come to the same conclusion.

 REAL FEELINGS

You see it isn’t the instruments or the pickup truck, or the girls in short shorts and beer down by the river. Real country is about real feelings explained in a way that real folks can understand and take to heart. Seeing that I personally love a good set of heartwarming lyrics, that means that I like this song and plan on adding it to my playlist.

The truth is that any music can be called anything. Tags are oh so yesterday now that artists have stood up to be counted. The record industry makes less and the artists make a lot less but songs like this one prove that it all starts with good lyrics and goes from there.

IN CONCLUSION

A song is like a marriage. If the foundation is strong so is the union and it becomes magic. If it is not then another song comes to mind written by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putnam but that, as they say is another story.
