Tributes continue to pour in for General Hospital’s Jacklyn Zeman

The tributes continue to roll in for Jacklyn Zeman who spent a lifetime portraying Bobbie Spencer on General Hospital.  On this Mother’s Day, we can imagine how painful this day is for her two daughters. Let’s keep them in our prayers today. Here is how it all started. Barbara Jean “Bobbie” SpencerRN debuted in December 1977, after playing Lana McClain on the sister-soap One Life to Live. Zeman went on to appear on General Hospital pretty regularly until 13 July 2010. The character is the sister of Luke Spencer and mother of Carly Corinthos. In February 2013, it was announced that Zeman would be returning to the role; she first appeared on March 22 and once again vacated the role on April 15, 2013. However, on October 22, it was confirmed that Zeman would be returning to the show, with her first air date slated to be on November 27. Zeman continued in the role until her last appearance on April 27, 2023, shortly before her death on May 9, 2023. Her official status has been former and recurring but for fans she was always top shelf.

Jackie’s early life

Zeman was born in Englewood, New Jersey, to a family of Jewish descent. Her parents are Rita Zeman-Rohlman, a magazine supervisor, and Richard S. Zeman, a systems engineer. She grew up in Bergenfield, New Jersey, and completed her high school studies at age 15, at Bergenfield High School, after which she studied dance on a scholarship at New York University. She was a Playboy Bunny at the Playboy Club in 1972.

Acting Career

Zeman had several small parts before landing a regular role in the ABC daytime soap opera One Life to Live playing Lana McClain from 1976 to 1977. Later that year, she was cast as Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Spencer on the sister-soap General Hospital, a role she played on a regular basis until 2010.

Jackie received three Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and one Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series nominations for her role. Since 2013, Zeman appeared on General Hospital on a recurring basis.

Outside soap operas, Zeman appeared in the 1982 comedy film National Lampoon’s Class Reunion and had a cameo in the spoof comedy film Young Doctors in Love. She starred in the made-for-television movies Jury Duty: The Comedy (1990) opposite Heather Locklear and Montana Crossroads (1993) opposite Kellie Martin. She performed in off-Broadway and other productions including Come Blow Your HornBarefoot in the Park, and The Boy Friend. Zeman received another Daytime Emmy Award nomination for her regular role as Sofia Madison in the streaming series The Bay in 2021.

In Conclusion

We should note that Kin Shriner was one of Jackie’s longest and dearest friends. He could really use our prayers right now.  He was definitely family she chose and his grief is abundant.
