Eric Braeden
Actor Eric Braeden who was born Hans-Jörg Gudegast was born on April 3, 1941. Braeden was born in Germany and is best known for his role as Victor Newman on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. Braeden was Hans Dietrich in the 1960’s TV series The Rat Patrol. He went on to portray Doctor Charles Forbin in Colossus: The Forbin Project.Some may remember him as Dr. Otto Hasslein in Escape from the Planet of the Apes, and as John Jacob Astor IV in the 1997 film Titanic. He won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1998 for Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the role of Victor Newman. The Young and Restless
Eric has been portraying cut throat businessman Victor Newman since 1980. He was originally offered the role for a 26-week run. His character imprisoned his wife’s lover. He became so popular the character became a love-to-hate villain, and his contract was extended.
Braeden won a Daytime Emmy for his work in 1998. In February 2017 he celebrated his 37th anniversary with the show. In 2020, the show marked Braeden’s 40th anniversary as Victor onscreen.
In October 2009, Braeden and The Young and the Restless came to an impasse regarding contract negotiations, and press reports indicated he might leave the show. However, CBS later announced that Braeden had inked a new three-year deal. He would remain with the show, agreeing to a reduction in salary, which was the original issue. There have been additional contract negotiations and disputes since 2009. However Eric Braeden remain Victor Newman currently and has no plans on leaving.
Announcing Bladder Cancer
Yesterday, April 22nd, 2023, Braeden announced he is in the middle of his battle with Bladder Cancer. He took to Facebook Live to make the announcement. He also told a heart warming story of how his Urologist recognized him from Young and Restless. His doctor told him he “learned to speak English,” while watching the show.
In Conclusion
To clarify, during his announcement he goes deep about the diagnosis. To sum it up, Eric gets emotional at the end of his announcement. Most importantly Eric does promise the fans he is going to fight and beat this cancer. I covered the story when Eric had his knee replacement surgery. You can see that story here.
